In its own quiet way, this is one of the best written pop songs I can think of. I love Jonathan Richman - he's a unique talent and he finds words and phrases that rhyme that would not occur to anyone else. He's also able to articulate great insight into human behaviour, eg the line at 2:32 "Do you long for her, or for the way you were?" That just nails something that we can all empathise with brilliantly! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_jRDVStzOY

And in a similar vein......now we're in real "rusties" country... "Don't Spook The Horse" - much sought after outtake (ie, it wasn't included on the album) from the magnificent 1990 "Ragged Glory" album by Neil Young & Crazy Horse - for my money the ultimate in Neil & The Horse studio albums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvAZjefHoiQ&feature=related The term "more barn" relates to one of the more eccentric (even for Neil) episodes in his life. I can tell you the tale, if anyone's interested (you don't have to be, it doesn't matter ).

qfx Freedom, and anything from Stone Roses (not sure if they are officially from the 90's, maybee late 80's me thinks) but I always associate their music with the 90's.
Aside from music, I remember the 90's as being a time of escort-xr3's and crop-tops with high waisted jeans, and the 'outrageous' having pierced belly buttons lol. x

This reminds me of smoking 'jazz tobacco' and mad club nights with mates, Shaun Ryder's comeback after the Happy Mondays, Black Grape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QkymuZyHMo

Did you not think Tim Booth's singing was a little flat during that Glasto performance?
Probably was a bit, wasn't it? At least he had hair in those days though! lol Dinosaur Jr "Get Me" at the BBC... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI-1t-PcaL8

The Roses lasted until 1997, although their last album was in 1994, so I think they can still be classed as a 90s band. Here is a complete *classic* 90s Roses tunes, 'Love Spreads': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYFK1R-wUwg

The brilliant Issa Bagayogo's title track from his debut album from 1998. He was working as a bus driver in Bamako when this came out. Needless to say - four albums later - he isn't now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STSacnDvWzI

Not sure if we've had this one before. It's a gem for hardcore fans of His Neilness. Enjoy the toiling majesty of Crazy Horse as they grind their way through "Change Your Mind", the centrepiece of the 1993 album "Sleeps With Angels". Boy, do they enjoy playing this one, four guys who have played together for so long and really get under the skin of the number. Oh, to see Neil do just one more tour with the Horse (all four haven't played together since 2003). It's on Google Video rather than YouTube as the song is too long for YouTube's 10 minute limit (no, wait - come back!! ) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4755706050123207340 For fans, there's some other gems in the related videos on the right hand side of the screen, inc a rare but recent interview on US TV with Charlie Rose.

Roni Size http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_xWpYjau9w Probably the one album that has won the Mercury Music prize annual thingy that was both quality and challenging to the listener.

Another one from Jonathan Richman. Here Jonathan points out some of the pleasures and pitfalls of public transport. (Best to avoid it! Especially the Metro - do you know the bloody things don't even have a buffet car? I mean - really!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r5NkEkaXHQ

Anyone else think that the 90s were a hell of a lot better than the noughties for music? Haven't heard this one for years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9ESAB2caU0 Or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aPIXeAmpO8

The best pop act of modern times? Very probably. It's the Pet Shop Boys with a live version of Dreaming Of The Queen

A magical moment in the history of recorded in music. In the 90s, quite by accident , a series of events took place that brought together a bunch of by then largely forgotten senior players in the rich pantheon of Cubam music. The outcome was an often imitated, but completely unrepeatable, confluence of astonishing talent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7huuRDyeQw&feature=related
